Second step: The koa wood is air-dried, one year per each inch thick. After the ukulele is air dried, it is cut into pieces for special parts. Then it is perfectly dried with a reefer, which is made out of an old refrigerator and a light bulb. This is the Kamaka's own invention. After the wood comes out, it adjusts itself to the moisture in the air.
