In Hawaii, we have some unique food tastes. some like sweet, some like sour, yet some like both! Everyone has their own unique tastes, but here are some recipes that our group LUVS to snack and eat! Below the recipes are sites we got them from if they were from the internet.
Deserts
Butter Mochi
1 pound (3 cups) mochiko (sweet rice flour)
2 1/2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
Two 12 ounce cans coconut milk
5 eggs
4 ounces melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix dry ingredients in one bowl, wet ingredients in another bowl. Combine both mixtures & pour into 9x13 cae pan. Bake for 1 1/2 hours. Cut & serve.

Guava Cake
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup guava pulp (fresh or frozen concentrate)
1/2 cup guava juice
Red coloring to tint cake pink (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter & sugar together and add eggs one by one, beat well. Stir baking powder into flour. Mix guava pulp & juice together. Add flour & liquids in alternate portions to the creamed mixture, stir to blend. Pour into greased & floured 13x9 inch pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until top of cake springs back when lightly touched. Frost with butter cream frosting of 1 cup softened butter, 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar, and enough milk to make a creamy consistency.
Dobash Cake
For the Cake
3 large eggs, separated
1 1/2 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cup cake flour
3/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
3/8 cup unsweetened cocoa
3/8 cup vegetable oil
1 cup milk
Preheat oven to 350ª F. Line 2 - 8" round pans with parchment or waxed paper. Beat egg whites until frothy. Gradually beat in 1/2 cup of sugar. Beat egg whites until stiff. Sift dry ingredients together. Make a well in the flour mixture; add vegetable oil and half of the milk. Beat until well blended, medium speed. Add remaining milk and egg yolks. Beat until smooth. Fold in the egg whites. Pour into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool and slice each layer in half, horizontally, to make 4 layers. Frost with Dobash frosting.
For the Frosting
1 1/2 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
3/8 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup water
Combine first four ingredients and bring to a boil. Sift the cocoa and cornstarch together to get the lumps out and combine with the remaining 1/2 cup water. Add to the boiling mixture. Bring to a boil again, cool slightly, and then frost. (Don't let it get too cool, or it will 'set' in the pot!)

Macadamia Nut Cream Pie
PIE CRUST
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup flour
1/2 cup nuts, chopped
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix pie crust ingredients, spread in 9x13-inch pan and bake until light brown (15 minutes), stirring occasionally with spoon. Save 3/4 cup for topping. Immediately press crust mixture in 9-inch pan. Cool.
FILLING
1 box (3 oz.) lemon gelatin
1 cup boilng water
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese
1 1/2 cups macadamia nut ice cream
Dissolve lemon gelatin in boiling water. Blend into softened cream cheese. Add ice cream and mix well. Pour into cooled pastry shell. Sprinkle crumbs on top and chill.
