The Great Gray Owl is dark gray with bars and flecks of light gray and white. It has yellow eyes, a long tail and a big head. It has a noticeable white “ Moustache”. He also has a black “ Bow tie”

VOICE OR SOUND

 The Great Gray Owl does not vocalizes as much as many other owls, though it becomes highly conversational while finding a mate.  It also becomes conversational during the rearing of the young.

HABITAT

 The Great Gray Owl lives in North America. They like the forest and the swamps. During migration they could be found in farm fields.  It eats small mammals and birds.  It can live on many things as it is an excellent hunter.

NESTING/EGGS

The nest is made up of stick nest made by other birds such as hawks, ravens, or crows. They are made in hollowed out tops of large-diameter snags. Nest also includes conifer needles, deer hair, moss and shredded bark. The average eggs laid are three, each separated by one to two days.

RANGE

 The Great Gray Owl can be found in northern North America and western Eurasia. It can also be found in Alaska and across Canada.

SPECIAL FEATURES

 Johann – Reinhold Forster in 1772, first described the Great Gray Owl. This owl is also called the Great-Gray Ghost. A white mustache strip is on the lower part of the face. The chin of the owl has what looks like a black bow tie.
