The middle ages were known for foods they used to eat. Some foods they used to eat are:
- The first meal of the day was bread and water sometimes meat and fish were also served
- For dinner they would eat meat and fish and drink red wine in the great hall they sat and ate at a banquet table
- sometimes on special occasions there could be up to 40 courses (that would be a lot of entertainment minstrels)
Mostly the Lord and Lady would eat lots of fine foods such as roast pheasant, peacocks, and fish. They also were practically the only ones who could drink wine. The cup-bearer's entire job was to make sure the lord had enough wine in his glass. The high table where the lord sat with guests, his wife, and family was the only one to have a table cloth. People who sat at the high table also were the only ones to have their own plates. Everybody else ate on big pieces of dried bread which soaked up sauce and could be given to beggars to eat.
Besides the Lord and Lady, practically no one had leisure time. Lords and Ladies liked to be entertained, so a lot time was spent together with minstrels playing for them. But when the lords did they used to play chess, hunting, and hawking.
