This picture you see above is a picture of the Galileo Probe and Jupiter. |
Jupiter is a very interesting planet to learn about. As you may know Jupiter is the biggest planet in our Solar system. It shrinks about a centimeter a day. It has rings that are not really recognized as much as Saturn's and can not be seen from earth. and They are very pretty. The red spot can be seen from earth and was first imaged from a close range by the pioneer 10 spacecraft in 1973. Voyager 1 took a picture of Jupiter's red spot on February 29, 1979, when the spacecraft was 9.2 million kilometers from Jupiter. Jupiter is 484 million miles away from the sun and is famous for 'The Red Spot.' The average surface temperature is -236°F. Jupiter has many storms and observers can see lightning coming out of clouds. Jupiter also doesn't have a solid surface. Jupiter's diameter is 88,750 miles. Jupiter's axis is tilted at about 10 degrees relative to it's spin axis and the cloud temperature is -121°F although the temperature varies with altitude. Jupiter was also a king of the gods and ruler of the universe. He was also the son of Saturn. |
