Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa in 1564, the son of Vincenzo Galilei, he is well known for his music and mathematics. In 1589, he was already appointed the chair of mathematics at the University of Pisa, a place which most people had tried their whole life to sit. He remained in that chair until 1592. He held the chair of mathematics at the University of Padua from 1592 until 1610. In the year of 1594, he patented a device that could raise the water level, and soon developed the telescope. The telescope is one of the most important inventions to this day, and shaped Galileo's life. In 1610, Galileo was given the title of mathematician to the Grand Duke of Tuscany. He studied Saturn and observed the phases of Venus.
