Women's Roles
One person who helped the wounded was Clara Barton. Barton saw men lying in filth on the ground with no one trying to assist them. She and her partners helped care for those that were wounded, replaced as well they could there supplies, made and brought meals, and wrote letters to families for them. Some people that tried to help Barton sent supplies and sometimes money. Barton worked in the war, supplying and nursing those who were ill or wounded.

Spying on Other Armies
Belle Boyd was a famous spy for both the Union & Confederate. Boyd started as a spy for the Union, but betrayed them as soon as they occupied Martinsburg, Virginia, her hometown. Boyd was arrested at least six times & was put in jail two times for being caught spying. The first time Boyd was arrested she was released after one month and went back to work as a spy as soon as she could. Toward the very last part of the war Boyd fell in love with a Union officer and they married but he died soon after their marriage and left Boyd a widow at age 21.
