Connecticut

Connecticut was established on January 9, 1788 and became the fifth out of the original thirteen colonies. Its capital is Hartford.

The symbol the U.S. Mint used on the quarter is a "Charter Oak". The "Charter Oak" is an important part of the state's heritage. Without the "Charter Oak", Connecticut's history could have been quite different. When the British asked Connecticut to surrender to them, Connecticut refused. At a meeting the British attempted to take their "charter" when the candles mysteriously burned out. Captain Joseph Wadsworth got the "charter" back and hid it in the safest place, an oak tree.

The Connecticut quarter was the last state quarter to be made in 1999. On October 12, 1999, the Connecticut quarter was produced.
