First you need to choose the land to build on. Then you need to consider what do you need to use the land for , what kinds of transportation will be available to the area. You need to find out what is the direction of the wind and what is the natural expansion behind the existing cities. You need also to plan the landscape and the roads and highways.

Does the direction of the wind really matter?

Yes because you will build your structure depending on the direction of the wind so you will have good ventilation.

What is the the next step?

Next , you then need to plan what will your structure be used for. Example housing, offices, schools and hospitals. At the same time you plan for the internal structure like water and electricity etc*.

About how long does it take to build 1 structure?

It depends on what structure you build.

What kind of materials do you use in the desert?

Construction is usually done using the surrounding building material for example mixing sand and concrete to make blocks. This is one way the builder can save money.

What makes building in the desert so difficult?

Special requirements must be given to the temperature in the desert . There are big extremes in the temperature in the desert. In the day it is very hot and at night it can be cold . So the buildings often have small facades or opening to allow the wind to ventilate . They also use a cooling tower to help naturally cool the structure.

I would never have guessed all these natural things went into the planning of a city in the desert.

Did you always know you wanted to build stuff when you grew up?

Yes, ever since I was little I was interested in building things and taking things apart. to see how they are put together.

How did you learn about drawing and architecture?

My Dad taught me how to sculpt and I learned to draw from practicing and observing how other architects draw . I also got allot of my knowledge from reading books.

What is a typical project for you?

A typical project consists of a six story building , somewhere in Manhattan , Brooklyn , or the Bronx. It is usually a residential building that's been around for a long time, in some cases 100 years or more.

What is the most important thing to consider in Urban Development?

Urban Development should consist of a building intelligently keeping in mind that people living in the city are its most important asset, Creating an environment , whether it's a park a stadium or apartment building that will make people feel comfortable.
