When Building a house in a desert. One must remember the extreme heat. Since there are extremes in the day and night temperature a builder must try to keep the structure cool in the day and comfortable at night. Temperatures in the early morning are often morning up to 90 degrees. So by about noon the temperature is well above 120 degrees. In order for people to survive living in the desert adaptations need to be made when designing a house., because people want to keep cool. Many thing are considered when designing a city in the desert. One of the first things an architect does is to look at the natural expansion of the existing city. He begins then to plan for the new homes to be built. One of the first things he needs to find the direction of the wind. He does this to use the wind to help to ventilate the house. He next decides the material to be used, in the desert the homes are often made from materials that surround them . Fore example sand and concrete are used to make the foundation and blocks for the structures. The most common way to cool and to heat the house is called tower. It is used by day as a cool tower . It works by placing special pads made of Cell-Dek sit at the top of the tower.. At the same time a tray of water is placed. Air passes through the pads with little resistance and is cooled by the evaporation of water. Since the moist damp air is heavier than the warm dry air it sinks and cools the structure. Another way is to use Evaporation cooling. Blowers are used to blow warm air through wet pads as the water evaporates the air is cooled, but soon the water stops evaporating and the air becomes warm. So you must open a window to let out the warm air. The building are also constructed in a way that small opening are placed the facade of the building faces the wind so that it is ventilated. These simple methods are used to naturally cool and warm the structures.
