CONTROL OF INTRODUCED SPECIES

The greatest threat to the Galapagos comes from introduced or invasive species. Thesecan damage the lack  natural defenses of the native species and can reproduce rapidly, destroying or replacing the native species.

Examples are the Black and Brown Rat, which prey on  tortoises and Rice Rat.

Studies are needed to look at these problems. Control and elimination of introduced species is a difficult and long-term problem.
