History of New York City

    New York is a very old city. The Dutch officially started it in 1624. The first settlement was n the southern part of the city, Manhattan. From the beginning it as very crowded. By 1660, the city had about 1,00 citizens

    Through the 17 and 18 hundreds the city grew quickly. It needed to expand. Soon the city was made of 5 counties and 8 million people. More and more people started coming to this city and the population grew.

    It now has a population of 18 million people. It consists of many neighborhoods and cultural centers, like the Museum of Modern Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of art, which are among the greatest museums in the world.
