The Olympic flame is one of the most famous symbols of the Olympics. The flame was introduced in 1928. The idea to have a flame had been suggested by Theodore  Lewald , a member of the international Olympic committee. Usually athletes carry the torch. The Olympic flame starts at the beginning of the ceremony. Today the Olympic flame is a big part of the opening ceremony.
