A lot of people ask, "What is Lymphoma?" Lymphoma is a cancer, which of course can kill a person. Lymphoma comes in two types, which are Hodgkin’s disease and non-Hodgkin’s disease. Hodgkin’s disease usually effects more males than females in their late 20s or over the age of 50. Hodgkin’s disease is rarer than non-Hodgkin’s disease and both of the diseases strike more whites than people of other races. Non-Hodgkin’s disease affects 16 out of 100,000 people, or 45,000 Americans. Hodgkin’s disease affects 5 out of 100,000. When somebody has Lymphoma it can be a heart-breaking feeling to talk about it. But what if you don’t know if that person has cancer. Well some of the symptoms are fever, night sweats, and fatigue (weariness caused by hard work). If someone sees those symptoms, they should most likely know the next step, which is to consult a doctor. If the doctor confirms the diagnoses of lymphoma that person may want to go out and buy a couple boxes of tissues because things can get painful. Millions of people each day die from cancer. Most people think "That won’t happen to my family," but they should not be so sure. Many, many people think that until it happens to them. There is a cure that doesn’t always work but it is always good to try. It is called chemotherapy. It will make that person lose his hair. But don’t worry about that. There is a special company that makes wigs from people who donate their hair by cutting off at least eight inches. There are also stores that make artificial wigs.
