1. You get diabetes from eating sugar.

MYTH

You do not get diabetes from eating sugar, but diabetics have to limit the amount of sugary things they eat.

2. You should test your blood sugars more than five times a day.

FACT

It is good to test your blood sugars five or more times a day. Then you will know what is going on. It can also help you master good control.

3. Diabetics can’t exercise.

MYTH

Exercising is good for anyone. It can help keep blood sugars in a good range.

4. You have diabetes forever.

FACT

Once you get diabetes you won’t get rid of it. It will be a challenge to learn to cope with diabetes for a lifetime, but you will probably get the hang of it.

5. You can tell when someone has diabetes.

MYTH

A diabetic can be anyone. People that have diabetes are perfectly normal. They just have to take shots, test blood sugar, exercise, and stay in balance.
