The Pin

    A pin occurs when you are attacking a piece, but if that piece moves, then you will capture the King or the Queen. As you can see here, there is a black Bishop attacking the Knight. If the Knight moves, then the Bishop will attack the Queen and black will have the advantage against white. For white there is a Bishop attacking the Queen. The white Bishop is attacking the black Queen, and the Queen can’t move because it will put the King in check. If the Queen attacks the Knight, then a Pawn will attack it. If the Queen attacks the Bishop, then the Knight will capture the Queen. This is known as double pin.

The Skewer

    A skewer is the opposite of a pin. You move a piece to make the Queen or King move and then you take the piece behind it. In this picture the white Rook will move from E1 and put the Black King in check. The King will move and the Rook will take the Knight.
