Let's Eat Things Off The Food Pyramid

By: Jasmine

"Did you know that there are six groups in the food pyramid?" The six groups are bread, vegetables, fruits, milk, meat and fats, oils and sweets.

The biggest food group is the bread group. This means that bread, cereal, rice, poi and pasta give you lots of energy. You should eat a lot of this group.

On the next level to the left is the vegetable group. Vegetables have carbohydrates which means that vegetables are good and it helps your brain function. Vegetables help you use fats effectively.

To the right of the vegetable group is the fruit group. Fruits do the same thing as vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are good for your body.

On the top of the vegetable group is the milk group. Milk has calcium that helps your bones grow and helps your teeth get stronger. A good way to catch your calcium is to eat cheese and yogurt and to drink milk.

On the side of the milk group is the meat group. Meat gives you important nutrients and protein but you don't have to eat to much meat, poulty, fish, beans, eggs and nuts.

At the very top of the pyramid is fats, oil and sweets. This does not make a group. You only need to eat a tiny amount of these three things. These three things don't give you too many nutrients and are filled with a lot of calories. You should eat this sparingly.

You should at less have four (.4) servings for breakfast, seven (.7) servings for lunch, 1.0 servings for dinner and three (.3) servings for snacks. The total should be 2.4 servings.
