HELICOPTERS

      The first Ah-64A was built in 1983.  Now the U.S Army has over 800 of them, same for the NATO and other allied forces.  The first time the AH-64A was used by the US was in Desert Storm.  During Desert Storm Apaches destroyed more then 700 vehicles.  Also the Apaches were used in Panama because of its night sensors. 

     Helicopters are used for many different things such as  shows, battles and transportation.  Examples are: in air shows they use a lot of helicopters. In Desert Storm they used helicopters to destroy everything.  The president has one and it carries him everywhere.

HOVERCRAFT

     Hovercraft have different ways to keep them off the ground.  Some of them have a wing that lifts them just off the ground others have huge fans that push air down and create a lift.  Hovercraft can go faster then most boats and land vehicles.  In fact some can go faster then a helicopter that weighs the same.  The first one was designed by Emmanual Swedenboug but never built.  Christopher Cockerell made the first hovercraft in the world and now there are millions of them.

There are many different types of hovercraft.  Some of them are the SRN1 and the SRN4 which are used to race and rescue people.  There is a special kind called the LCAC which is bigger and only  used by the military.  There are many more and they are all used for many different reasons like rescue, transportation, racing and advertisements.
