The Cretaceous period was the time with the greatest number of dinosaurs. The continents were quickly separating and many varieties of dinosaurs developed. The climate was warm, with rainfall similar to today. At the end of the Cretaceous period dinosaurs became extinct. There are many theories why this happened, but no one knows for sure.
