Neah-Kah-Nie

Indians living in Oregon near the valley of  the Nehalem River , near Neah-Kah-Nie mountain, tell a legend about a pirate ship, a sea battle, and a treasure chest.  So far no one has been able to find this treasure, but the Indians living in the area still tell about this legend.
The Indians tell several versions of this legend.  The first legend says that there were three different ships engaged in a battle just off shore from the mountain.  According to this legend it is not clear which ship carried the treasure or how it got to the Nehalem River.  The second legend tells that a Spanish ship carrying the treasure was wrecked and its crew was killed by the Clatsop Indians who took away the treasure.  The third legend tells that a pirate ship brought treasure stolen from the cathedrals of Mexico and South America and buried it on Neah-Kah-Nie mountain.
