Tabby Cat (Tigger)

Cats

Once a cat loves you, it's definite and you will know the cat loves you by the affection it shows. Cats are usually not good for very young kids.

Cats have different personalities and are best adopted and trained as young kittens, but sometimes adult cats can be introduced into a new family successfully. A successful adoption occurs when the adult cat adopts you.

Adopting a kitten- If you and your family decide on owning a cat, you probably need to get a kitten so you and your family can watch it grow. Make sure not to bring home a kitten too soon, even if you feel tempted to. A kitten needs to be with its mother for a certain amount of time because the mother gives the kitten the nutrients it needs.

What does owning a cat cost? The price of a cat varies depending on the breed. The cost to keep a cat for a year is listed here:

Cat-proofing your house- Cats are curious critters and will want to explore every inch of your house as soon as you bring it home.

Household hazards-

  1. Recliners can trap a cat that crawls inside it, so be sure to check and see if your cat is under the leg rest or inside the recliner before returning the recliner to an upright position.
  2. Rocking chairs can rock on your cat's paw or tail, so be sure your cat isn't sitting near the rocker.
  3. Be sure your to put your iron and ironing board away when you're finished using them. They could harm your cat if you don't.
  4. When you get done drying and taking your clothes out of the dryer be sure to shut the dryer door because your cat could get hurt or even die.
  5. Small objects such as coins, pins, needles, rubber bands, paper clips, nails, screws, staples, thread, dental floss, earrings and small balls can harm your cat's digestion system.
  6. Make sure your window screen is tightly secured. This will keep your cat from jumping or falling out of a window.
  7. A toilet is a popular water bowl for a cat and it could poison your cat if it has an automatic flushing system. That's why it's very important to keep the lid down.

Potential Poisons-

  1. A lot of common household plants such as lily-of-the-valley, daffodils, rhododendron, and hydrangea are poisonous to cats. Eating these plants can cause symptoms such as upset stomach, convulsions, or even death. You should give your cat a bowl of grass if he/she likes greens.
  2. When you use chemical cleaning supplies make sure you wash away the residue.
  3. When you spill any antifreeze clean it up because any antifreeze can harm your cat or even kill your cat.
  4. Don't let your cat play with pills that are in the floor you should pick the pills up and throw them away.

Did you know?

If your cat feels like hunting it will not only catch a mouse, but the cat will show it to you and expect praise.

If someone says,"You better not hold that cat for too long, you might give it worms." That's not true, they're probably just saying that because you're holding the cat and they want to or probably someone has told them that.
