Cocktail Bird (Old Yeller)

Birds

Birds are fun to have and different types of birds require different things. The average bird requires a clean, roomy cage with different perches, the right kind of seeds, fruits, and vegetables, and some kinds of toys.

What does owning a bird cost? The cost varies depending on the type of bird. A cocktail would cost around $100, but a parakeet would cost only $50. If you own a parakeet or cocktail, this is what it would cost to keep it for a year:

Being Responsible- Here are some tips to help you take care of your birds.

  1. If you're a bird owner, and you really love your bird, don't kiss it because a bird's mouth is much cleaner than yours. If you kiss it, your bird could die within less than hour because of your germs.
  2. Another thing that can kill your bird is being put on a diet. When they are put on a seed-only diet, they are also put at a risk of dying within a short period of time.
  3. Never ever try to surprise your bird, because it will really upset the bird and maybe even cause it to have a heart attack.
  4. Don't shout or using a loud tone of voice.
  5. Don't squirt the bird with water. Misting is okay, just not huge blasts. Don't make a rapid approach from behind or from where the bird can't see you.
  6. Don't hold direct eye contact with your bird.
  7. When sick you should take your bird to an avian specialist.
