The Science of Cooking

This site is full of cool facts. You will learn about physical change, chemical change, and what the science of food is. You will also be learning about protons, electrons, neutrons, and atoms. You may think this has nothing to do with food, but guess what, it has a lot to do with food.

Chemical Change

Chemical change is when you change the appearance of an object and cannot change it back.

For example, when I add yeast to my dough the yeast will get mixed in with the dough. Will I be able to take the dough back out? No, that makes it a chemical change.

Physical Change

Physical change is when you change the appearance of an object and can change it back.

For example when I melt an ice cube and then put it back in the tray and freeze it and it will look like it did before I melted it.

Atoms

Atoms are the tiny particles that make up an element. They are the smallest unit that can define an element.

Atoms make up us and they make up food. A lot of people don't think about these things, but it's true, we eat atoms. Without atoms we wouldn't be much of anything and neither would our food. Next time you go to eat think about the science of food.
