The Revolutionary War was fought when the colonists were trying to get their freedom from the British. Paul Revere put out a light to tell the colonists whether the British were coming by land or sea. The British came by sea. One thing that triggered the war was the Stamp Act. This bold act caused the colonists to tar and feather the tax collectors. Many numerous riots broke out in America. The British taxed the people on tea also, so on April 1, 1774, the Sons of Liberty dropped 342 crates of tea into the ocean. This was a response to the British parliament taxing the colonists. The war lasted for eight years. This is how the Revolutionary War started and how the colonists got their freedom.
