Goals for Spending

Did you know kids alone spent $14 billion dollars in 1995? Teenagers alone spent $67 billion dollars. And parents spent $160 billion. This was all spent on stuff that was advertised either on TV or on the Internet.

Do you pick one thing to buy or do you buy anything you like if it is available to you? If you choose one thing to buy, then you should make sure you really want it if it is a high price. Don’t spend money on something that you don’t want to use for the rest of your life.

If you choose one thing to buy and need more money you should save your money somewhere. It could be saving in a wallet or letting mom or dad pay you for your chores. And, if you are short a few dollars, you may be able to get interest for the money you save in the bank. To get enough money, you must save in any way you want to save.

You should also have some extra money left over so you still have some change in your pocket. Don’t forget about the tax, also. That will raise the price of things you buy a little.

There is also a difference between wants and needs. If you don’t earn a lot of allowance, you should buy fewer things each month.
