OREGON HISTORY
Being On The Oregon Trail
It is six-o-clock we are being woke up by a bugle.

We left from Independence, Missouri. Our train master gave us the signal to go. This trip is 2,200 miles. The date of today is April 21st, 1845.

Before we left to Oregon we prayed we would make it there. We left during the Spring so we wouldn't get into Winter on the trail. After about 20 miles today we stopped (which is about the average mile range.) The only time we stop normally is at lunch to eat, and at night (when it is dark) to eat and sleep.
When we awoke a fire was going and someone was about to make our breakfast (they had to wait till the pan was warm enough to make our breakfast.) Then we stopped and did the same thing with the cooking and ate lunch. The same went on with dinner, but they didn't put out the fire this time. Then we went to bed.

This went on for a while until we started to not have a lot of supplies. Then the men would go and hunt for meat and the women would gather fruits, berries, and water, and the kids would get wood, if there was no wood for fire, we would get buffalo chips or weeds. If you don't know what a buffalo chip is it is a buffalo dropping.

We woke up at six-o-clock today. Tonight I slept under the stars. Then it was the next day. Then we started again. Tonight I didn't sleep that well at night. Today I woke up at five-o-clock. We are waking up earlier because the sun is starting to rise sooner. Today I got to take the eggs out of the flower box.

Then I awoke the next day and everyone was celebrating. It was the fourth of July, we were celebrating for our freedom. We had a big feast. We woke up at the same time. I was glad that I slept in the wagon, because a coyote was roaming around where I slept. We are starting to have a bit of trouble with getting food. It is all ready September.

Then someone got sick, she had bronchitis. They gave her a lot of water to make her feel better. Then we are in Oregon. We made a farm and had a big house.
