The Common Dolphin is
an oceanic dolphin. It can be found in temperate and tropical
oceans. The Common Dolphin's body is fusiform,
long and thin. It has a long thin beak
that is quite distinct from its melon.
The dorsal
fin is of median-size and falcate.
The pectoral
fins are short, the flukes
have a median-sized notch in them. This dolphin's back is almost
black, its throat and stomach are white or creamy white. Black
stripes joint its pectoral fins to its lower jaw and eyes. The
Common dolphin's front flanks are a pale yellow. One or two gray
bands stretch along the bottom of its flanks. This dolphin's fins
and upper jaw are black. It has 40 to 50 small cone-shaped teeth
on each jaw.
