Telstar was the first communications satellite to ever be launched. Telsatr1 was launched on July 10, 1962 by a delta rocket from cape Canaveral FL. The same day it relayed radio signals from the US to Europe. These radio signals were used for television pictures. Telstar made history with the first live broadcast across the ocean.

These television signals were beamed up from a ground station is the us to Telstar, where it boosted the signals and sent them to ground stations in Europe. The pictures were then broadcasted to the peoples  homes.
