Mercury 8 and 9

Mercury 7 was launched on May 24, 1962. The only crew member was Scott Carpenter. Carpenter’s mail objective was to corroborate man-in orbit. Mercury 7 had a velocity of 17,540 miles per hour.

The Mercury spacecraft and Atlas launch vehicle. Performed excellence except for a few problems. One of these was in the automatic control system. Cabin and pressure suit temperatures were fairly high but not unbearable during flight. Many scientific experiments took place like liquid behavior in a weightless stale. Splash down occurred on May 24, 1962 but over shot target area by 250 nautical miles.

Total mission duration was 4 hours, 56 minutes, and 5 seconds. Mercury 7 completed its mission with few problems.
