On the morning of July 16, 1969,three men Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin, would embark on the greatest journey known to mankind. Their mission was to successfully land on the moon, collect rock and air samples and return to Earth safely.

Apollo 11 blasted off to a  thrust of 7.5 million pounds. The monstrous 3,000 ton Saturn V  rocket pushed Apollo 11  at a speed of nine thousand feet per second. On top of the giant Saturn rock et was Apollo 11's command and lunar module (the Eagle). The command module was 2.1 meters high and 3meters in diameter.

After lift off the Saturn V went through 3 stages separating and burning up in the atmosphere. The command module and the Eagle were on route to the moon. When Both modules reached the moon, on July 20, 1969.The Eagle boosted off from the command module and began it's decent. 

 

 

 

 

 

When the Eagle touched down. Neil Armstrong made that historical one small step for a man and one giant leap for mankind.

After collecting all kinds of samples the Eagle took off and rejoined the command module. The astronauts soon dumped the Eagle in space and began their journey of 240,000 miles home. The Columbia splashed down on July 20, 1969.
