Apollo 16  was   launched from launch complex 39A from Cape Canaveral, Florida on April 16, 1972. Apollo 16's crew was John Young, Thomas Mattingly, and Charles Duke Jr. Apollo 16's main objective was to investigate an area of the moon called the Descartes highlands. 

The Lunar module, Orion landed on the moon on April 21, 1972. The astronauts on the moon used the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) and the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP) to travel and gather information about areas of the moon like the Cinco crater on stone mountain, and the Wreck craters. 

After resting, astronauts began a LRV traverse around North Ray crater that was 11.4 km. Activities on the lunar surface had a duration of 29 hours and 14 minutes. Astronauts collected 95 Kg of samples and traveled 26.7 km in the LRV. Apollo 16 departed from the moon on April 24, 1972 and splashed down on April 26, 1972.
