On May 18 , 1969, Nasa launched Apollo 10 as a final dress rehearsal for the moon landing. Thomas Stafford, John Young , and Eugene Cernan were to take photographs for landing sites and use the lunar module to simulate how the next Apollo mission was to go about landing on the moon. The Saturn 5 rocket launched Apollo 10  at 12:49 pm on May 18th. 3 days later the lunar module and the command service module went into a 60X170 nautical mile orbit around the moon.

When in orbit the lunar module descended to less than 10 miles above the lunar surface. The astronauts took pictures of the moon and sent 5 hours and 25 minutes of color transmissions to Earth. After successfully docking with the command and service module the astronauts in the lunar module joined back with the command/ service module. Soon the astronauts ejected the lunar module into the moons orbit and on May 24th Apollo 10 began It's journey home.

Apollo 10 splashed down on May 26th at 12:52 pm. The mission had been a complete success.
