Story Musgrave was bon on August 19, 1935. He was a high school dropout, but earned many degrees, including a B.S. in Mathematics and Statistics from Syracuse University, an M.B.A. in Operations Analysis from the UCLA, a B.A. in Chemistry from Marietta College, an M.D. from Columbia University and an M.S. in Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Kentucky.

Story Musgrave was a mission specialist on the shuttle mission STS-6 (April 4-9, 1983) and 51-F (July 19-August 6, 1985).

While working for NASA, he published over 44 scientific papers and was a part-time surgeon and a part-time professor of physiology and biophysics.
