Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun. it has two moons Phobos and Deimos. Phobos is the large one. Phobos is tiny for a moon, actually it is about the size of Houston. Mars is named after the Roman god of war, because it looks blood red in the night sky. people have looked at Mars for thousands of years. 

   Mars is small compared to Earth. The surface area of Mars is about 1/4   on Earth. 

  The atmosphere of Mars  is 95 percent carbon dioxide, almost 3 percent nitrogen and about 2 percent argon with extremely small amounts of oxygen, carbon monoxide, water vapor, and other gases.

   NASA is planning to make a base on Mars in the near future.
