Mariner 5
carried experiments to probe Venus. It flew by Venus October 16, 1967.
With more sensitive instruments it was able to get better pictures of
the planet than Mariner 2 or 4. The Mariner 5 program ended on November
1967. It was an octagonal shape with 4 solar panels pointing toured the
sun for power. It used cold gas thrusters to make it go. |
