Grant was born with a frontier
family. He lived in a two-room cabin
in Point Pleasent, Ohio. His dad's
name was Jesse Root Grant. He was
a tanner. He mom's name was
Hannah Simpson Grant. She was a
hard-working frontier woman. When
he was one, his family moved to
Georgetown, Ohio. He grew up and
went to school there. Later he went
to Presbyterian Academy in Ripley,
Ohio. He worked on his dad's farm.
When he went to college he went to
West Point. Here is where they
mixed up his first and middle names.

guide the Union forces in the Civil
War. His troops defeated Lee and
the rest of the south. Later he
became a congressman. People still
remembered him as a great war hero
and voted him president. Grant was
the eighteenth president. His wife,
the first lady, Julia Dent Grant was a
shy and young first lady.
