Dorothy meets the Lion in the forest where he scares Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman ,and Toto. He's scared of almost everything. He joins the group because he wants courage from the Wizard. Baum gets the idea for the Lion from a man he has a shootout with according to the Dreamaker. At the end of the of the story he gets courage ( the Lion doesn't get it from the wizard). Sometimes he fights his fears and fights to save the travelers.
