Jessie Keyser lives in Clifton, Indiana. There it is the year 1840. Her family includes her mom, dad, Andrew, Katie, Hannah, two other siblings and herself. They live in a very small log cabin. There is a disease called diptheria, which is starting to kill all the kids in Clifton. Jessie’s mom is the midwife in Clifton, so she sends Jessie to find a cure before she runs out of time.
