~*~~*A Day Without Conveniences*~~*~

The adult characters in the book Running Out of Time chose to live in a world without conveniences.  Could you do the same?

For this project you will have to describe a day without conveniences. First you will describe what you do before school, during school, after school, what kind of chores you would do, and what you do to get ready for bed. Remember you cannot use electronics, such as a television, a computer, microwave, and even transportation vehicles. Or anything that was not used around 1840-1860.

A Day Without Conveniences (Example essay)

A day without conveniences would be hard.  When I wake up, I would have to do my chores in candlelight instead of electricity.  There would be no water coming from the sink, so I would have to wash up in water fetched from the lake or stream.  I would have to walk to school because there wouldn’t be cars to travel in.  In school, we would have to write on a small chalkboard with chalk because paper and pencils were expensive.  Children would always have to do their assignments by hand, and pretty much do everything with writing.

After school, I would go outside and play with other children or play a board game.  I might try to climb a tree or read.  I could also try to create things with wood, like toys or games.  I could also draw.

Today we are lucky because we have technology.  We wouldn’t have things such as computers, telephones, new medicines, and televisions.
