Meet Our Team

Building these survival web pages turned out to be a semester project for us. During the first week of school our teacher told us about ThinkQuest. We visited the ThinkQuest web site and decided we were up for the challenge of making a project for the contest.
Choosing a topic for our project was easy. We were reading the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen in our reading class. (This book is fantastic and remains one of our favorites!) We decided we wanted to use the book Hatchet in our project, but expand on it as well. With a plane crash, learning to survive in the woods, and a tornado all occurring in this book, survival seemed like a natural choice for a ThinkQuest project. Our teacher helped us out my choosing a number of books for us to read that centered around a survival topic. Hatchet and The Cay made it to our site. We read others that we liked as well, but due to time they were left out of our web pages. We recommend that you read not only Hatchet and The Cay, but Swiss Family Robinson and Snake River if this topic interests you.
During English class we wrote many short reports on many topics dealing with Hatchet, The Cay, and eventually our longer reports on survival topics. Finally we used our computer class to put everything together into web pages.
During the semester we received help from several men from Mountain City Fire Department who brought their fire trucks and equipment to our school and to Marty Silver, park ranger, who also came to our class.
Now that the project has come to a close we feel it has been a great experience and would recommend others to participate next year.
