Malaria

Phillip awakens one morning to find Timothy sick with malaria. What is malaria? How do you catch it? What are the symptoms?

Malaria is transmitted to humans from the bite of the mosquito. This occurs mostly in tropical areas where mosquitoes are plentiful. Each year 400 to 600 million cases of malaria are diagnosed causing 1.5 to 2.7 million deaths.

A person with malaria usually gets chills followed by fever. Then sweating brings the temperature down. This cycle usually last about 12 hours.
