After Ben had finished his letter he heard a boom and the warning siren. He quickly ran to see what was going on. There were planes attacking Pearl Harbor and he saw a red circle on one of the planes. The Japanese were attacking. |
Ben quickly went to a turret and started shooting. Mclean saw him and said to Ben "I'm gonna go up to the turret and good luck".
Ben replied "Good luck to you too".
Mclean quickly went up to a turret and started shooting. Mclean got shot on the leg and fell in the water. He decided to swim to shore. It took him a few minutes to go on shore because of his leg. He reached the shore at about 8:10am and boom! The Arizona was in flames. Mclean took a look at the disaster and saw the Japanese planes leaving.
Mclean thought about all his friends especially Ben. Ben was his first friend. They had made a lot of promises together. Then Mclean fainted.
Mclean woke up in a hospital. "You are a survivor of Pearl Harbor," said a nurse. After a few days Mclean finally got out of the hospital. On December 16, 1941 Mclean went home and wrote a letter to Ben's parents. Dear.................... and sent it.
In the year 2001 Mclean is now at the Arizona Memorial telling stories about the war to young kids.
