Alliances. Alliances means a bond between states, parties or individuals. In simple terms it is when nations form a team to help each other out. When we have alliances in the world there is the possiblity of a war involving more than just two countries because allies might help each other during a war. In the year 1936, Germany, Japan, and Italy signed a pact to help each other. Germany, Italy and Japan were the Axis Powers. The leaders of the Axis Powers were Adolf Hitler of Germany, Benito Mussolini of Italy, and Emperor Hirohito of Japan. Then there was another alliance. These countries were called the Allied Powers and were made up of the USA, Great Britain, France, Russia, and others. The leaders for the Allied Powers were Joseph Stalin for Russia, President Franklin Roosevelt for USA, and Winston Churchill for Great Britain. One way they helped each other was that British ships would be guarded by US ships to protect them from the German submarines.
