Since our site title is "Through our Eyes, Hearts, and Minds", we thought that children living in Japan might see the war from a different perspective. One of our coaches knew a class in Japan and we wrote to them telling them what we're doing and asking if they could help us with our Hiroshima section.

The children from the LABO Torigoe Party are Chie, Rie, Natsuki, Maiko, Asuka, and Sota. The children from Kamo Elementary 6-2 are Yuri, Mika, Takaaki, Miki, Kana, Ayaka, Raito, Shoki, Yuji, Chinatsu, Hideko, Kazunori, Takashi, and Yoko. Their teachers are Torigoe Genshi and Torigoe Yuko.

We asked Kamo to share a little bit about the bombing of Hiroshima like experiences, prior information, or opinions.

They, in turn, wanted information about the Arizona Memorial. When we visited the memorial, we took some pictures and put captions on them so they would know what the pictures are.

Probably the best statement of our shared feelings about war comes from Torigoe Natsuki, our friend and LABO student from Japan.

Quote from Natsuki's Interview
Nobody can cure the scars of war left in people's heart even though physical wounds are healed. We cannot be happy by depriving foreign people of their c ountries. I will never start war, and do not want to be involved in war.

We learned that we have the same interests as Japan children do and that they think of the war in almost the same way that we do. Last but not least, if or when we do go to Japan or if they come here we will already have friends!
