Description Did you know that Kaelepulu Pond is now only 79 acres large compared to 280 acres during the ahupua'a days and that it is privately owned? Also, only a small portion of the pond is now considered a wetland? Read "A Glimpse of Kaelepulu's History" and you will get a better picture of how it became what it is today. Kaelepulu Pond is now known as Enchanted Lake. Enchanted Lake is no longer an 'ili or part of an ahupua'a as it was in ancient Hawaiian days. Enchanted Lake is now referred to as a huge drainage basin called a watershed. A watershed is like a large water bowl. Water from surrounding areas soak into the ground and often drain into a pond, lake, and/or marsh. Kaelepulu Pond has
been transformed into a sprawling community as seen in the
photo below. |
