Purpose

Did you know that our country has lost so many wetlands that only 45%-50% of them remain today? Now if you think this is bad news, Hawaii has been estimated to have less than 10% of their wetlands remaining today! We would like to share with you a sad but truthful story of what has happened to a wetland called Kaelepulu Pond that used to exist in our community, but no longer exists today. This journey will take you back to ancient Hawaiian days when Kaelepulu Pond was a self-sustaining community; a place where the Hawaiians could live off the land by depending only on their natural resources. You will then journey to present day to see the "changes" of Kaelepulu Pond's wildlife and its habitat.

Is it possible that there was once a wetland in YOUR community?
Who are the stewards of your wetland?

Malama i Ka Kelelua!
