Did you know that the Samoan Crab is also known as the mangrove crab?

The mud crab's (Scylla serreta) common name is the "Samoan Crab". The Samoan crab is not native to Hawaii. It is a purplish brown color with two large claws ending in sharp pinchers. It likes to eat mollusks, crustaceans, and small amounts of plants and debris. It can be found in shallow waters of mangroves and estuaries.

People think that the Samoan crab and the blue pinch crab are the same thing, but they are only from the same family. Here is a photo of a Samoan crab that was caught in Kaelepulu Pond by one of my classmate's grandma.
