Did you know that the Barracuda are sometimes a little too vicious and will eat their own young?

The Barracuda's ("Sphyaena barracuda) Hawaiian name is Kaku. Barracudas are not native to Hawaii. The Barracuda has extremely sharp teeth. They are silverfish gray with long, narrow tapered heads that look wolf-like. Barracudas are not forgiving and will challenge almost every type of fish except the billfish and sharks.

Their habitat is warm tropical waters, but they can live in brackish water too. They can be really small or grow up to 6 feet long. They eat nettlefish, mullet, scads, majarva, and puffer. In 1993, a four foot barracuda was caught in Kaelepulu Pond! It was believed the barracuda entered Kaelepulu Pond from a nearby bay to Kailua Bay.
