Palau "oais" (Hanguana Malayan) is an exotic plant introduced from the Caroline Islands and Malaysia. This plant grows in freshwater mud near marshes and in abandoned taro patches. The palau "oais" can grow up to 1.5 meters in height.

It has green leaves that can grow as large as 1 meter in length and 15 centimeters in width. The leaves look like ti-leaves. The palau "oais" has flowers that are 2 - 3 millimeters across and greenish in color. Its seeds are roundish and about 1 centimeter in diameter.
