Did you know that the Pilgrim Geese are the only species of goose in which sex can be told by color?

The Pilgrim Geese (Tribe anserini) are found in the bird sanctuary of Kaelepulu Pond and other wetlands throughout Hawaii. Older males are mostly white with gray rumps and a little bit of color on their tail and wings. Females are a soft dove gray color with a little amount of white on their faces.

Both sexes have an orange bill and have orange legs. Males have blue eyes and females have dark brown eyes. They are medium-sized geese weighing six to seven ounces. Pilgrim Geese are also know for their loud honking sound.

The Pilgrim Geese are known for being calm and personable. These introduced species can be a threat to our native birds because they compete for space and food.
